Bees And All That Jazz

I went to check on my bees today after work.  Usually a few bees take a ride with me in the car on the way back from the bee yard and today was no exception.  It's been 19 years since the death of Miles Davis so the local NPR station played one of his songs on the radio as a tribute.  What a surreal moment that was....driving down a country road, the sun setting in the distance, bees lazily buzzing around my head while the golden trumpet of Miles Davis lulled me into a peaceful tranquility.   These are the moments I live for.

  1. Michelle,
I have just found a small mourning dove-very much like the one you rescued. It is quite tame and allowed my daughter to touch its back. Of course, I cautioned her not to touch wildlife, but I am concerned that this little fellow is a bit too tame. Is this behavior normal of these birds or is this one in distress? It looks healthy but didn't try to elude our dog and would be in her stomach now if we had not interceded in time. I will be watching for your response. Thanks!

  2. Does it seem alert and active? Is it walking around and pecking the ground looking for seeds? Or is it laying still and not moving around a lot? I would need to know more about it's behavior. Thanks! :)
