Experiment with Silence

There are many subliminal messages being fed to us every second of every day through mass media.  They tell us what to wear, what to drive, what to eat, what to think.  I look around and I see a nation of robots following the pied piper.  I fight a battle in my mind against this onslaught and find myself mentally exhausted at the end of the day.

Then it dawned on me that I don't have to subject myself to this propaganda.  I have a choice.

Tonight I chose to be in a quiet home.  No TV.  No music.  No background noise at all except for the usual neighborhood goings on.  You know what happened?  I accomplished my nightly chores in record time.  I also continued my purging project and was able to think clearly about what should stay and what should go.  I sit here typing on the computer after a full day of work, then working at home for nearly 5 more hours and I feel rested and somehow at peace.

It seems downright weird not to have something on as background noise - but the benefits have far outweighed the weirdness.  I think I might make this a regular thing.

I wonder....has anyone else done this?
